Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized the necessity of rebuilding the country as a measure for ensuring stability within the Coalition Government. Addressing the recently published National Security and Defence Review (NSDR) report, which pointed to inconsistent messaging and decision-making by the government that has led to the impression of “self-serving leaders,” Kamikamica acknowledged that the previous administration’s actions had contributed to public concerns and a decline in trust.
The report highlighted various national security issues raised by stakeholders, with trust identified as a central theme. “You only have to look at how we have conducted ourselves as a government over the last 16 years,” he stated. He acknowledged the valid concerns that have emerged, stressing that rebuilding the country is essential for fostering stability.
Kamikamica underscored the significance of trust in government operations, noting that the government’s conduct over the past decade and a half has led to certain apprehensions. He reaffirmed his support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the unity within the government.
