Ravu Steps Down, Will Continue as Backbencher

Kalaveti Ravu has stepped down from his role as Minister for Fisheries and Forests, but will continue to provide service to his constituents and the people of Fiji as a backbencher. The Prime Minister of Fiji, Sitiveni Rabuka, announced this transition, pointing out that Ravu’s resignation came in response to charges from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption and is part of due process. Rabuka emphasized that resignation does not imply guilt or innocence, but sees it as the proper course of action to uphold the nation’s integrity.

Expanding further on this situation, Rabuka voiced respect and gratitude for Ravu’s services to the nation, particularly commending his tenure as Minister for Fisheries and Forests over the past eighteen months. He thanked Ravu’s family and his electors, assuring them that Ravu would continue to be a diligent backbencher and representative for the people of Fiji. The Prime Minister also lauded Ravu’s loyalty and the preservation of government integrity.

Rabuka disclosed that in his resignation letter, Ravu expressed gratitude for the chance to serve the Fiji people and government, and explained his decision to resign as being rooted in upholding personal integrity and preserving government dignity. Ravu intends to refute the allegations brought forward by FICAC, aiming to clear his name. Concluding his statement, Rabuka invoked respect for due process and judicial independence, and invited the people of Fiji to pray for their nation.
