Kalaveti Ravu has stepped down from his role as the Minister for Fisheries and Forests, though he will remain in parliament as a backbencher to continue serving his constituents and the residents of Fiji. His resignation was confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and comes after charges were launched against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Rabuka emphasized that Ravu’s resignation should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt or innocence but as a means of upholding due process. He noted that Ravu’s decision to step down was the appropriate and honorable move to make for the sake of the nation and its people.

In his resignation letter, Ravu expressed his appreciation for the chance to serve as the Minister for Fisheries and Forests. He stated that he has chosen to resign to preserve his integrity, respect the conventions of Cabinet, and maintain the rankings of the government in the wake of allegations made against him.

Ravu denies all the allegations and plans to vindicate himself. The Prime Minister reinforced his respect for due process and the independent judiciary system and urged the people of Fiji to continue praying for their nation.
