Ravalaca vs. Haider: Is the 61kg Showdown Finally Happening?

The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) is reaffirming its commitment to providing Mikaele Ravalaca the opportunity to challenge for the 61kg title. Last month, BCF Chairman Adi Narayan announced that Ravalaca would be the mandatory challenger following the South Pacific Boxing Promotion’s “Rumble in Labasa” event.

Ubayd Haider is the current holder of the 61kg title after defeating Saimoni Ratu at Subrail Park in Labasa over the weekend. Narayan emphasized, “Promoters should engage with the respective managers to negotiate. BCF has made its determination regarding the fight.”

On Sunday, Ravalaca’s team took to social media to remind BCF that the 21-year-old is the mandatory challenger for titles in the 59-61kg range. They urged BCF to eliminate politics and delays, stating, “Make this fight happen without further excuses.” The team also issued a warning to Haider, suggesting that he should prepare for the impending challenge.

Fans in Fiji have been eagerly anticipating a fight between Ravalaca and Haider. Despite ongoing calls for the bout, it has yet to materialize, with both boxers engaging in blame games on social media. When asked about potential actions BCF might take if Haider evades Ravalaca’s challenge, Narayan replied, “Let’s wait and see. BCF will take action if it comes to that.”

Both fighters have remained active on social media, with Haider hinting at his intentions. “We have secured two national titles in different divisions; now we are going for the 55.4kg and 57kg titles, and we all know who holds those. I’m still waiting for you; let’s give the fans what they want,” he remarked.

Before the “Rumble in Labasa” event, it was reported that promoter Mohammed Sameer Khan of Bluewater Boxing had proposed an $8000 purse for both fighters to compete on August 31.
