Ratu Wiliame Takes a Stand Against Drug Crisis in Naitasiri

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has called on Naitasiri’s paramount chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, to take firm actions against the escalating issue of illicit drug use affecting the community. During the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting in Tamavua Village, Suva, he voiced his concerns regarding the rising drug abuse throughout the nation.

Ratu Wiliame emphasized the importance of collective efforts to improve the province, urging collaboration between the vanua, the youth, and the community to tackle the prevalent social challenges. He expressed alarm over the harmful impact of drugs on young people and stressed the necessity for unification among families and churches to safeguard future generations.

The president highlighted the need to reinforce cultural values and respect within families and the community. He also encouraged youth who have dropped out of school to pursue education at technical institutions as a means to mitigate social issues and contribute positively to community development.

“Pointing fingers will not solve our problems. It is our responsibility to confront these challenges head-on,” Ratu Wiliame stated. He suggested introducing a comprehensive village profile initiative to aid the government in providing targeted support for the residents of Naitasiri.

Additionally, he urged the community to take proactive steps in combating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) through healthier dietary choices. He noted that the Ministry of Health reported that 80 percent of deaths are due to NCDs, prompting a call for reflection on traditional dietary practices.

“We must learn from how our ancestors lived and what they consumed. It is vital that we eat what we cultivate ourselves,” Ratu Wiliame concluded.
