Ratu Tevita to be Installed as Tui Nayau on Nayau Island in a Historic Ceremony

On July 8, 2025, Ratu Tevita Lutunauga Kapaiwai Uluilakeba Mara will be installed as the fourth Tui Nayau on Nayau Island. He is set to continue the legacy left behind by his late father, Ratu Sir Kamisese Kapaiwai Tuimacilai Mara, a man known for his unparalleled service to his people and country.

The residents of Lau are excited by the prospects for the future, 24 years into the 21st Century. The upcoming installation is both a significant and historic event. Ratu Tevita, also known to his family as Roko Ului, symbolizes a blend of respect for ancient heritage and acceptance of modern realities.

The prestigious installation ceremonies will occur on Nayau and Lakeba Islands, signifying the dawn of a new era of leadership and stronger alliances. A tight-knit group will be present at the installation, honoring the rituals of Nayau.

This event, coming 20 years after the death of his esteemed father, encapsulates an important period in the region’s history. The Islanders are eagerly looking forward to this occasion.

Noa Moce, Turaga Tui Devo and the liuliu ni Bose ni tikina and Bose Vanua Nayau, shared the community’s anticipation. Moce praised Ratu Tevita’s appointment as Tui Nayau stating that it not only carried forward the legacy of Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara but also instills new hopes and aspirations among the people.

Ratu Jale Uluilakeba of the Vuanirewa clan highlighted Ratu Tevita’s commitment to the people and their traditions in accepting his designation as Tui Nayau, Sau ni Vanua, and Tui Lau. He believes that this event will be a unifying force for the people of the Lau Province.
