Ratu Sukuna Park’s Long-Awaited Reopening is Finally Here!

Ratu Sukuna Park is set to reopen on August 19 after several years of delays. In a recent interview, Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting CEO and chairperson of the Suva City Council, acknowledged the public’s concerns regarding the prolonged closure. He explained that upon taking office, they identified several factors contributing to the delay, including attempts to modify the park’s design.

One significant change involved the decision to remove a planned café from the project, which subsequently reduced the cost from $13 million to $7 million. Mr. Boseiwaqa noted that the park will feature enhanced infrastructure, including larger podiums, benches, charging ports, and lighting. Additionally, a new fence will be installed to improve security.

He emphasized the importance of public responsibility in maintaining the park’s condition for everyone’s enjoyment, urging visitors and council staff to collaborate in preserving the space.
