Ratu Sukuna Park is set to reopen on August 19, following years of delays. In a recent interview, Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting CEO and chairperson of the Suva City Council, acknowledged the public’s concerns regarding the prolonged closure, which has also been frustrating for them.
Boseiwaqa explained that the delays stemmed from attempts to modify the park’s design, particularly with plans to include a café. He noted that any design changes can lead to significant delays. Ultimately, by eliminating the café from the project, the council managed to reduce costs from $13 million to $7 million.
The park will feature various enhancements, including a larger podium, new benches, charging ports, and improved lighting. Additionally, plans for fencing will enhance security around the park. Boseiwaqa urged the public to treat the park with respect, emphasizing shared responsibility in maintaining the space for everyone to enjoy.
