Ratu Sukuna Park Reimagined: A Call to Action for Fijians

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take an active role in caring for the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which has undergone a $7 million transformation. During the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

He described the transformed park as a testament to the nation’s progress and commitment to urban renewal, showcasing modern features such as a new podium, decorative night lights, contemporary furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and enhanced landscapes that combine hardscapes with greenery.

Kamikamica noted that a new water feature has been added to enhance the ambiance surrounding Ratu Sukuna’s monument, creating a more serene environment. He emphasized that the park represents more than just a green space; it serves as an oasis within the vibrant city, providing peace, creativity, and an opportunity for a fresh start.

“This space allows individuals to pause, connect with loved ones, and explore new directions in their lives,” he stated. He reminded attendees that parks like Ratu Sukuna are essential for community health and well-being, offering areas for families to gather, children to play, and individuals to find solace in nature.

Kamikamica urged continued efforts to enhance Suva’s natural environment, reinforcing the city’s reputation as one of the top places for environmental quality on the Global Cities Index.
