Ratu Sukuna Park: A Long-Awaited Reopening!

Ratu Sukuna Park is set to reopen on August 19 after years of delays. In a recent interview, Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting CEO and chairperson of the Suva City Council, acknowledged the public’s concerns regarding the prolonged closure of the park.

Boseiwaqa explained that upon taking office, they understood the reasons for the holdup, which included attempts to revise the park’s design, specifically with the addition of a café. He noted that these changes caused the project to progress slowly. By removing the café from the renovation plans, the project’s cost was significantly reduced from $13 million to $7 million.

The park will feature upgraded amenities, including larger podiums, benches, charging ports, and improved lighting. Additionally, new fencing will enhance security. Boseiwaqa emphasized the community’s role in maintaining the park’s condition, encouraging the public to take responsibility for its upkeep.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between the SCC staff and visitors to ensure that Sukuna Park remains a pleasant space for all.
