The villagers of Namara in Ra warmly welcomed Ratu Josaia Niudamu, the newly appointed Assistant Minister for Justice, during his first official visit on Monday. This event marked an important consultation for the Liwativale District, where the community displayed their appreciation for governmental involvement, particularly through the enthusiastic reception from village elders.
Expressing his surprise at the warm welcome, Ratu Niudamu remarked, “I arrived for the Liwativale District consultation, and I didn’t expect to be showered with this welcome by the elders of the village.” His first engagement after his swearing-in last Friday underscored the community’s eagerness to engage with their representatives.
Ratu Niudamu brings a wealth of knowledge to his role, being a qualified lawyer and a chief from Ra. He has an extensive background, having spent over a decade in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and operating his own practice, Niudamu Lawyers. Initially part of the FijiFirst party, he has since aligned with the Group of 9 (G9), which supports the coalition government led by Prime Minister Siromi Turaga.
Looking forward, Ratu Niudamu has shown a commitment to assist Minister Turaga in implementing various governmental frameworks leading up to next year’s elections. He also hinted at future political ambitions, suggesting he might consider a run when the timing is right.
This visit signals a strong connection between the government and local communities, fostering a spirit of cooperation and hope that sets a positive tone for Ratu Niudamu’s term. The collaborative approach he aims to take reflects a broader commitment to listening to community needs and enhancing governance, which many Fijians find encouraging as they work together towards a brighter future.
