Ratu Navula College is fully committed to securing the Vodafone Deans Trophy this season. This assertion comes from Mitieli Qumi, the Under-18 team manager, after their narrow quarterfinal victory of 16-10 against Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School.
In an interview, Qumi emphasized the importance of re-establishing the dominance of Western teams in the national finals, noting that MGM were considered favorites this year. “We looked up to them when we came to Suva, as they were a very strong team,” he remarked.
The RNC players showcased a strong defensive performance in the closing minutes, effectively preventing MGM from scoring. While celebrating their advancement to the semifinals, Qumi acknowledged there is still room for improvement. “There were mistakes, but we will regroup and return as a stronger team,” he stated.
RNC is set to face the defending champions, Queen Victoria School, in the semifinals. “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength comes from the spiritual support of our families and the school,” Qumi added.
