Ratu Navula College is committed to winning the Vodafone Deans Trophy, as emphasized by the Under-18 team manager Mitieli Qumi after their narrow quarterfinal victory of 16-10 against Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School.
In an interview, Qumi expressed the team’s ambition to restore the Western teams’ dominance in the national finals, noting that MGM was favored to win this year. He acknowledged the strength of MGM, admitting that they looked up to them upon arriving in Suva due to their reputation as a strong team.
The RNC players showcased strong defensive skills during the final minutes of the match, successfully keeping MGM from scoring. Qumi recognized that while reaching the semifinal is an accomplishment, there is still room for improvement. He mentioned, “There were mistakes but we will regroup and come back a better team.”
Next, RNC will face defending champions Queen Victoria School in the semifinal. “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength is the spiritual support from our families and the school,” Qumi concluded.
