Ratu Navula College is serious about clinching the Vodafone Deans Trophy this year. This statement was made by the Under-18 team manager, Mitieli Qumi, following their quarterfinal victory over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School, where they won 16-10.
In an interview with SUNsports, Qumi emphasized the team’s objective of restoring the dominance of Western teams in the national finals. He pointed out that MGM was regarded as the favorite this year and acknowledged their previous excellence, saying they looked up to them when they arrived in Suva.
The RNC players showcased a tough defense in the closing minutes of the match, effectively keeping MGM from scoring. Qumi noted that while reaching the semifinals is an achievement, there remains room for improvement. “There were mistakes, but we will regroup and return as a better team,” he stated.
Next, RNC will face the defending Deans Trophy champions, Queen Victoria School, in the semifinal round. Qumi declared, “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength is the spiritual support from our families and the school.”
