Ratu Navula College is determined to secure victory in the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This commitment was highlighted by the RNC Under-18 team manager, Mitieli Qumi, following their narrow 16-10 victory over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in the quarterfinals.
In an interview, Qumi emphasized the team’s objective to restore the supremacy of Western teams in the national finals, noting that MGM had been considered the favorites for this year’s competition. “We looked up to them when we arrived in Suva since they were a very strong team,” he remarked.
The RNC players displayed a strong defensive strategy in the final moments of the match to hold off MGM’s advances. Qumi acknowledged that while they have advanced to the semifinals, there is still potential for growth and improvement. “There were mistakes, but we will regroup and return as a better team,” he stated.
RNC will now face the reigning Deans Trophy champions, Queen Victoria School, in the semifinals. “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our greatest strength comes from the spiritual support provided by our families and the school,” Qumi concluded.
