Ratu Navula College is demonstrating a strong commitment to clinching the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This determination was expressed by the Under-18 team manager, Mitieli Qumi, following their quarterfinal victory over Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School with a score of 16-10.
In an interview, Qumi emphasized the team’s ambition to reestablish the dominance of Western teams in the national finals. He acknowledged MGM as the favorites this year, highlighting their reputation as a formidable team that they admired upon arriving in Suva.
The RNC squad showcased a fierce defense, particularly in the closing moments of the match, successfully preventing MGM from scoring. Qumi noted that despite reaching the semifinal, there is still potential for improvement. He stated, “There were mistakes but we will regroup and come back a better team.”
Looking ahead, RNC will face the reigning Deans Trophy champions, Queen Victoria School, in the semifinal. Qumi affirmed their focus on competition, saying, “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength is the spiritual support from our families and the school.”
