Ratu Navula College is determined to secure the Vodafone Deans Trophy. This commitment was highlighted by the RNC Under-18 team manager, Mitieli Qumi, following their narrow 16-10 victory against Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School in the quarterfinals.
In an interview, Qumi expressed the team’s aim to restore the prominence of Western teams in the national finals, noting that MGM were considered the favorites this year. “We looked up to them when we came to Suva since they were a very good team,” he remarked.
The RNC players showcased strong defensive skills in the final minutes of the match, effectively stifling MGM’s attempts to score. While they reached the semifinal, Qumi acknowledged the need for improvements. “There were mistakes but we will regroup and come back a better team,” he stated.
Ratu Navula College will face the defending Deans Trophy champions, Queen Victoria School, in the upcoming semifinal. Qumi emphasized the team’s focus, saying, “We are here for business and we are here to play. Our biggest strength is the spiritual support from our families and the school.”
