Ratu Kadavulevu School continued their impressive winning streak last Saturday by clinching the Vodafone Deans Trophy Under-17 title. The team has maintained an unbeaten record since competing in the Under-14 grade.
In an interview with SUNsports, head coach Usaia Naqicitabua expressed confidence as the team looks forward to next year, with the aim of restoring their prestigious legacy in Delainakaikai. “During halftime, I urged the players to tighten their defense as this was the final,” Naqicitabua shared. “We need to eliminate those careless mistakes at critical moments in the game.”
Naqicitabua noted that the team was well-prepared and showed great composure, particularly during the final ten minutes of the match, which allowed them to secure victory. He credited the team’s success to the strong unity and camaraderie among the players, despite having lost around 12 original team members over the years.
Regarding their aspirations for next year, Naqicitabua stated, “I believe it’s been a long time since the school has tried to reclaim the Under-18 title. It will be a significant challenge for us, but we are determined to prepare ourselves and put in the hard work necessary to bring back the glory.”
