Ratu Josefa Dimuri, the newly elected senior vice president of the People’s Alliance, has pledged to honor his new role. He was elected unopposed during the party’s General Assembly held in Lautoka last week, succeeding Rewa chief Ro Naulu Mataitini, who is currently living in the United States.
Ratu Josefa acknowledged the difficulty of stepping into such a significant position, especially following the legacy of the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua of Lomanikoro, Rewa. He expressed his intention to proceed carefully and with humility, hoping to grow into the role with divine guidance and fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him by the assembly while uplifting the party at all times.
He also expressed surprise that no one else chose to run for the position, stating that he would have withdrawn if he had known there would be other candidates. Ratu Josefa highlighted the wealth of talent among party members, noting that having others in leadership roles would greatly benefit the party’s operations.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to progress in all areas and respected the trust placed in him by the two divisions that nominated him. Furthermore, Ratu Josefa endorsed the sentiments of the women’s wing leader regarding the importance of increasing women’s participation in the party. He mentioned the vision of having the first woman president or vice president soon, indicating a positive shift towards more women in critical leadership roles.
