A former police officer is facing trial for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman at the Valelevu Police Station’s single men’s barracks. During a recent court session at the High Court in Suva, the man appeared before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere to respond to the rape charge.
During the proceedings, DPP prosecutor Simone Seruvatu informed the court that while the pre-trial conference has been finalized, it has not yet been officially filed or served. He noted that there was no meeting between the State and defense on the originally scheduled day for the pre-trial conference, although both parties did come together to finalize the proposed agreed facts and checklist.
Seruvatu requested another date for the pre-trial conference, and Justice Tuiqereqere granted the prosecution a period of two weeks to accomplish this. The accused has had his bail extended, and the case is scheduled to resume on October 15.
