Rain or Shine: Over 500 Runners Rise to the Namosi Challenge!

The president of the Suva Marathon, Beth Sargent, expressed her amazement at the impressive turnout of over 500 runners at the Namosi Challenge held on Saturday, despite challenging weather conditions. The event included a half marathon (21km), an individual marathon (10km), and a team marathon, where groups of four completed a full marathon by each running 10km.

This marked Sargent’s third participation in the Namosi Challenge, and she was eager to take part in such a picturesque setting. As a member of the Suva Marathon club, she also played a role in organizing the event and was delighted to witness the enthusiasm and determination displayed by the participants.

“This is the third time I have done the Namosi Challenge, and as part of the Suva Marathon club, I was involved in organizing this event,” Sargent noted. “It was an incredible race; it was soggy from the rain, but more than 500 runners showed up and participated.”

Despite the wet conditions, runners exhibited remarkable resilience and determination throughout the race. Sargent emphasized that the stunning views and the support from local communities along the route made it a rewarding experience.

“It was so beautiful out here; the hills are a bit tough, but the views and the communities along the way really motivate you to push through those hills,” she said.

Sargent was particularly inspired by the perseverance and spirit of the runners, who tackled the difficult conditions without giving up. She encouraged others to consider participating in future events, highlighting the beauty of the course and the sense of accomplishment that accompanies completing such a challenging race.
