Radrodro: Prioritise student welfare

Radrodro’s Call for Fair School Enrollment Sparks Concern

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has called on school leaders and principals to demonstrate greater empathy towards the challenges faced by parents and guardians. This appeal comes in response to concerning reports received by the Ministry regarding discriminatory enrollment practices.

In a statement made yesterday, Radrodro acknowledged instances where students in uniform have been denied access to schools or have been informed to seek other educational institutions shortly after enrolling. He emphasized the significance of the 2023 Denarau Declaration, particularly the importance of ensuring every child has the right to education irrespective of their academic performance or any other factors that could lead to exclusion.

Radrodro highlighted that actions preventing students and their families from accessing equal educational opportunities would be counterproductive to the goals of the Coalition Government. He reminded those responsible for these wrongful practices that accountability lies with his office and the Ministry.

To assist parents and guardians facing difficulties in enrolling their children, the minister urged them to reach out to their nearest district education office. He reassured that the ministry is dedicated to providing professional guidance and resources to help schools manage enrollment processes effectively.

In closing, Radrodro urged all school heads and principals to collaborate with stakeholders to create a nurturing and inclusive educational environment that places student needs and equality at its forefront.

This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of accessible education for all students, reinforcing a commitment to inclusivity in schools. As the government continues to advocate for fair access to education, it aims to build a stronger foundation for the future of all learners.
