Radiology Technician’s Bail Drama

A former technical officer in radiology at the CWM Hospital, facing charges of obtaining financial advantage and forgery, has been granted a $3000 non-cash bail.

Apisai Qumivutia is accused of receiving cash payments from a patient for an MRI scan but failing to submit the funds to the hospital cashier, resulting in him allegedly obtaining $3520.

The incident is said to have taken place in December 2018.

Mr. Qumivutia made his first court appearance before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad on Thursday.

FICAC lawyer Sameea Nisa served the first phase of disclosures and requested strict bail conditions. The court granted her request for 21 days to file and serve the second phase of disclosures.

Mr. Qumivutia is required to report to FICAC once a month, surrender his passport, and not change his residential address without the court’s approval.

The case has been adjourned to August 13 for his plea to be taken.
