Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has acknowledged the challenges currently facing the nation, stating, “As natives, we are going through a period of challenges and change.”
During the annual meeting for the province of Tailevu held yesterday, Rabuka expressed gratitude for the province’s support of the Coalition Government. The two-day meeting is taking place at Vuci, Tokatoka in Tailevu.
Rabuka emphasized significant developments in Tailevu, including enhancements to wharf facilities in Waidalice and Wainawi, as well as updated Namau and Viria water supply systems, which are set to benefit parts of the province soon.
He also shared his ambitious plans for Tailevu, highlighting initiatives in agriculture, fisheries, health, youth development, poverty reduction, and efforts to combat illicit drug cultivation. Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of traditional roles in community leadership and their influence within religious and governmental frameworks.
Rabuka noted that approximately 483 traditional titles, which account for 55 percent, have been filled, while 396 positions, or 45 percent, remain unoccupied in the Tailevu province. He underscored the necessity for the Council to fill these vacant roles.
In addressing societal issues, the Prime Minister discussed topics such as climate change, cyclone preparedness, cultural preservation, and the increasing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), HIV, and abuse against women and children.
He concluded with an emphasis on the importance of collaborative planning at the village, district, and provincial levels to further ensure progress and development for Tailevu.
