Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that his next visit to the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the adoption of his ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy, a proposal put forth during the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tonga last month.
During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that he would present this ‘Oceans for Peace’ initiative at the UNGA Meeting, following his address last year. He indicated that while the policy was adopted in Tonga, a more comprehensive framework is anticipated to be finalized in Honiara in the Solomon Islands next year.
The Prime Minister also noted that he has requested His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to represent him as the Leader of Government at the upcoming 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Rabuka emphasized that the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fiji Government to draft a plan that advocates for peace and security among nations in the Pacific region.
