Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that his next trip to the United Nations General Assembly will coincide with the Pacific Islands Forum’s adoption of his ‘Ocean for Peace’ policy, which was proposed during the 53rd Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting in Tonga last month.

During the launch of Fiji’s Foreign Policy White Paper, Rabuka mentioned that he plans to present the ‘Oceans for Peace’ policy during this year’s UNGA meeting. He indicated that this framework was adopted at the recent PILMs in Tonga and is expected to be formally adopted in Honiara, Solomon Islands, next year.

The Prime Minister also noted that he has asked His Excellency President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere to represent him as the Leader of Government at the 79th United Nations General Assembly taking place in New York this week. According to Rabuka, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is collaborating with the Fiji Government to draft a comprehensive plan that advocates for peace and security among Pacific nations.
