Rabuka’s Stronghold: Cabinet Backs PM Amid Party Tensions

Senior Cabinet members and leaders from the People’s Alliance have expressed their support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. In a notable gesture, the Prime Minister’s social media team shared statements from several key figures, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica, Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo, Minister for Agriculture Vatimi Raiyalu, Minister for Women and Children Lynda Tabuya, Colonel Sakiusa Raivoce from the PAP, Minister for Fisheries and Forests Alitia Bainivalu, and Minister for Rural Development Sakiasi Ditoka, all affirming their allegiance to the Prime Minister.

Earlier this week, Rabuka addressed the existence of a faction within the Party that aims to split from the People’s Alliance to form a new party as the 2026 General Election approaches. He stated that such individuals are welcome to pursue that path but emphasized the strength and unity of the People’s Alliance.

“However, let it be known that the People’s Alliance remains strong, united, and fully committed to delivering on our promises to the Fijian people. We will not be distracted. Our focus is clear, and our mission continues,” Rabuka remarked.

The Prime Minister is currently in New Zealand for his first official visit, where he is meeting with his New Zealand counterpart. He is also set to be the chief guest at the Fiji Day celebrations with the Fijian community in Aotearoa. Next week, he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa, with an agenda centered on promoting a more prosperous, secure, sustainable, and equitable future for all citizens, with a special emphasis on the youth.
