Rabuka’s Political Future: What Lies Ahead for the People’s Alliance?

Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, is remaining silent regarding his intentions for the 2026 elections, amidst increasing speculation about his candidacy. Although he has not officially declared that he will run again, Rabuka did not dismiss the idea when asked about it.

Concerns have been raised that the party may be drifting from its original manifesto, a situation some attribute to its participation in the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options for the future.

“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the unclear outlook, Rabuka is cognizant of the strong support from party members who are keen for him to lead them into the upcoming election.

“Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he noted. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”

Additionally, Rabuka indicated that the party’s manifesto might evolve over time, encouraging supporters to share their feedback during party meetings.

“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
