Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka held a meeting with senior police officials yesterday afternoon as part of a series of briefings aimed at enhancing his understanding of his responsibilities as the Minister Responsible for Police and Immigration. The gathering included key figures such as Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, Deputy Police Commissioner Sakeo Raikaci, and several other senior police officers.
During the meeting, the focus was on familiarizing himself with the current operational and management conditions of the Fiji Police Force. In comments made to The Fiji Times, Prime Minister Rabuka shared that he views these sessions as essential to effectively performing his duties. He mentioned, “It was my ‘familiarisation briefing’ from the Acting Commissioner and his Senior Management/Command team, similar to the one I will have with the Acting Director of Immigration and Senior Staff tomorrow afternoon.” He had previously met with the Divisional Police Commander for the Western Division earlier in the week.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, along with permanent secretaries Mason Smith and Dr. Raijieli Taga from the Office of the Prime Minister.
This proactive approach by Prime Minister Rabuka signals a commitment to strengthening the governance and operational effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in Fiji. By seeking direct engagement with key officials, he aims to foster better communication and accountability within these pivotal services that play a crucial role in national security and public safety.
In a world where public trust in law enforcement is essential, Rabuka’s actions promote a hopeful vision of enhanced collaboration between the government and the police, which could lead to improved community relations and safety outcomes in Fiji.
