Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that he does not have the authority to initiate a Commission of Inquiry into the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). He explained that such a commission can only be established by the President upon the Prime Minister’s recommendation. Rabuka is currently reviewing the Commission of Inquiries Act to formulate his proposal for the President.

Following this, he mentioned that the Terms of Reference for the inquiry will be developed and publicized. Rabuka emphasized the importance of a swift process, noting that many Fijians have concerns regarding the integrity of certain institutions. He believes that expediting the investigation will benefit everyone involved.

The Prime Minister also indicated that the members of the Commission have not yet been selected, but he assured the public that this matter will be addressed soon. He expressed his dedication to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the process and thanked citizens for their patience as they navigate this situation.
