“Rabuka’s Fight Against Political Labels: A Coalition’s Journey”

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reflected on the political challenges faced by the Coalition Government over the past two years, discussing the accusations and labeling he encountered during the lead-up to the 2022 General Election.

In his remarks, Mr. Rabuka expressed resilience to personal insults, recalling similar experiences during his previous term as Prime Minister from 1992 to 1999 alongside Jai Ram Reddy. He noted that in the recent elections of 2018 and 2022, he and Professor Biman Prasad were subjected to unkind political tactics that did not personally impact them, but created fear among the electorate.

Highlighting his connection to the Indo-Fijian community, Mr. Rabuka emphasized the importance of trust, mentioning that Mr. Prasad would not have entered into a coalition agreement unless there was mutual confidence between them. He stated his desire to dispel any doubts regarding his dedication as a national leader, particularly towards the Indo-Fijian population.

Mr. Rabuka reassured the public that the three-party coalition government is working together to build a better future for Fiji. He predicted that by the time the People’s Coalition Government approaches the next election, the electoral landscape would be significantly transformed from past experiences.
