Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, is remaining quiet about his intentions for the 2026 elections, despite increasing speculation regarding his candidacy. While he has not officially confirmed that he will run again, he has not dismissed the idea when asked if he would seek re-election in two years.
Concerns have been raised that the party may be drifting from its original manifesto, which some believe has been affected by the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged this issue, indicating that he is still weighing his options. “It will depend on my availability,” he stated, adding that he would need to go through the selection process and apply if he chooses to run.
Rabuka is aware that numerous party supporters are keen for him to lead them into the next election. He mentioned that various issues have been highlighted by supporters across different media channels concerning what has been accomplished and what remains unaddressed. He noted that while his party has not met all the goals set out, partly due to the alliance structure, they did have a productive meeting recently.
He also stressed that the party’s manifesto can evolve, encouraging supporters to share their ideas during party gatherings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he affirmed. Rabuka emphasized the importance of the alliance as a collective effort to lead the country in accordance with the people’s will, driven by a shared vision for national improvement.
