The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has chosen not to disclose his intentions regarding the 2026 elections, despite increasing speculation about his candidacy. When asked if he would run again in two years, Mr. Rabuka did not confirm but indicated that he might consider the possibility.
Concerns have emerged regarding the party’s alignment with its manifesto, as some believe the Coalition Government has compromised its principles. Mr. Rabuka acknowledged these issues and stated he is still weighing his options, noting that his participation would depend on his availability and the selection process.
“I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants,” he remarked.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his political future, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters are hoping for his leadership in the upcoming elections. “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he stated. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”
Mr. Rabuka also pointed out that the party’s manifesto could adapt over time, urging supporters to share their suggestions during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he explained. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
