Sitiveni Rabuka, the leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, has remained silent regarding his plans for the upcoming 2026 elections amid rising speculation. Although Rabuka has not officially confirmed his candidacy, he did not dismiss the idea when asked about his intentions for the next election cycle.
Concerns have emerged about the party deviating from its manifesto, with critics suggesting that the Coalition Government has impacted its original promises. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns and mentioned that he is still evaluating his options. “It will depend on my availability,” he stated. He added that he would need to go through the selection process and would have to be one of the applicants.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his potential candidacy, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters of the party are eager for him to lead in the next election. He noted, “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been.”
He also addressed the party’s achievements, mentioning that they have not been able to fulfill everything they initially set out to accomplish, partly due to their alliance. However, he shared that they had a productive meeting recently.
Rabuka emphasized that the party’s manifesto can adapt over time, encouraging supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he remarked. He reiterated the importance of their alliance and collective goals, stating, “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
