Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, has remained silent about his intentions for the 2026 elections amidst increasing speculation. While he has not officially announced his candidacy, he did not dismiss the idea when asked about running again in two years.
Concerns have been raised regarding the party’s adherence to its manifesto, with some critics arguing that it has been compromised under the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating he is still weighing his options.
“It will depend on my availability,” he commented. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at that time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”
Despite the ambiguity surrounding his candidacy, Rabuka is conscious that many supporters are keen for him to lead the party into the next election. “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he noted. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”
Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto might evolve, encouraging supporters to express their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
