The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has remained secretive about his intentions for the upcoming 2026 elections, amidst increasing speculation about his candidacy.

Rabuka has not made any formal announcement regarding his potential run, yet he did not dismiss the idea when asked about his plans for the next two years. Concerns have emerged regarding the party’s adherence to its manifesto, particularly under the Coalition Government, with some party members fearing it may have been compromised. Rabuka acknowledged these worries and stated he is weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked, adding, “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Rabuka is cognizant of the enthusiasm among party supporters who wish for him to guide them into the next election. He noted, “Some of you have raised those issues on various media platforms — the things that have been accomplished and those that haven’t.”

Rabuka explained that the party has not fulfilled all its goals, partly due to the complexities of their alliance, but he highlighted that they have had productive discussions. He also indicated that the party’s manifesto could adapt, urging supporters to share their thoughts in meetings.

“As our party’s name suggests, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are united,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship among individuals with a shared objective: to lead the country properly according to the people’s will, guided by a vision for national improvement.”
