The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is remaining silent about his intentions for the 2026 elections amid increasing speculation. While Mr. Rabuka has not confirmed his bid for re-election, he has not ruled it out when asked about his potential candidacy in two years.

Concerns have been raised regarding the party’s deviation from its manifesto, with some suggesting it has been compromised under the Coalition Government. Mr. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options. “It will depend on my availability,” he remarked.

“I’ll have to join the queue and be subject to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants,” he added. Despite this uncertainty, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters are eager for him to lead them into the upcoming election.

“Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms – things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he said. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”

Mr. Rabuka also stressed that the party’s manifesto could evolve and encouraged supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated.

“We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
