Rabuka’s Call for Unity Amidst Political Turmoil

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed his reflections on the political landscape in Fiji, particularly focusing on the challenges faced during the lead-up to the 2022 General Election. In his remarks, he noted that he had been labeled negatively and faced accusations, with the exploitation of racial issues being a significant theme in the political discourse.

Rabuka highlighted how, throughout his political career, including his previous term from 1992 to 1999, he and others like Jai Ram Reddy were often targeted with personal insults. He pointed out that during the recent elections, both he and Professor Biman Prasad encountered similar harsh political tactics that instilled fear among voters, particularly within the Indo-Fijian community.

He emphasized the importance of trust and unity amongst the coalition government, stating that the decision to form a post-election coalition was based on mutual trust. Rabuka reassured the Indo-Fijian community of his sincerity as a leader and outlined his commitment to rebuilding Fiji’s future collaboratively within the three-party coalition government.

Looking ahead, he expressed optimism that the electoral landscape would significantly change by the time the next election approaches.
