The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is remaining quiet about his plans for the upcoming 2026 elections amid increasing speculation. Although he has not officially announced his candidacy, he has not ruled it out when asked about running again in two years.

There are concerns that the party may be deviating from its original manifesto, a situation some critics attribute to its Coalition Government. Mr. Rabuka acknowledged the concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked. “I will have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his potential candidacy, Rabuka is aware that many of his party’s supporters are eager for him to lead them into the next election.

“Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he noted. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”

Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto could adapt over time, encouraging supporters to share their ideas at party meetings.

“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
