The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has not revealed his intentions for the upcoming 2026 elections, even amid increasing speculation. Although he has not officially announced his candidacy, Rabuka did not dismiss the idea when asked about running again in two years.
Concerns have been raised about the party possibly deviating from its original manifesto, with some claiming that its principles have been compromised under the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns but stated that he is still evaluating his options.
“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked, indicating that he would have to go through the selection panel and apply if he chooses to run.
Despite the lingering uncertainty, many supporters of the party are keen for him to lead them into the next election. Rabuka noted that issues regarding the party’s direction have been raised across various media platforms, acknowledging that not all goals have been achieved, partly due to the alliance’s dynamics. However, he mentioned that recent meetings have been productive.
Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto could be subject to change, encouraging supporters to bring forward their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name indicates, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he said.
He reaffirmed the importance of their alliance, stating, “We are in a partnership of individuals with a shared goal: to lead the country according to the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s improvement.”
