Rabuka’s 2026 Election Rumblings: What’s Next?

The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has remained silent regarding his intentions for the 2026 elections amid increasing speculation. Although he has not formally declared his candidacy, Rabuka did not dismiss the possibility when asked about running again in two years.

Concerns have been raised about the party deviating from its manifesto, with some suggesting that this has occurred under the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options. “It will depend on my availability,” he noted, adding that he would need to go through the selection process as required.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his political future, Rabuka is cognizant of the desire among party supporters for him to guide them into the next election. “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he said, reflecting on the party’s achievements.

He pointed out that the party has not fulfilled all its objectives, partially due to their alliance with other parties, but noted a productive recent meeting. Rabuka emphasized that the party’s manifesto could adapt over time and encouraged supporters to share their ideas during party gatherings.

“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he explained. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
