The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is remaining silent about his intentions for the 2026 elections amid increasing speculation.
Although Rabuka has not officially announced his candidacy, he did not dismiss questions regarding his potential return for the upcoming elections. Concerns have emerged that the party may be deviating from its original manifesto, a change some attribute to its role within the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged this issue and indicated that he is still weighing his options.
“It will depend on my availability,” he stated. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”
Despite the ambiguity surrounding his future, Rabuka recognizes that numerous party supporters are keen for him to lead them into the next election. He mentioned that party members have voiced concerns through various media channels about what has been accomplished and what remains unfulfilled.
“We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting,” he explained.
Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto may evolve, urging supporters to share their ideas during party meetings.
“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
