Sitiveni Rabuka, the leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, has chosen not to disclose his intentions regarding the 2026 elections amidst rising speculation. Although he has not officially announced his candidacy, he did not dismiss the possibility when asked about running again in two years.

Concerns have been raised that the party may be deviating from its original manifesto, with some commentators claiming that this shift has occurred under the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, indicating that he is still weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he stated. “I will have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at that time. I will still need to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the lack of clarity surrounding his candidacy, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters are keen for him to lead them into the next election. “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms — things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he remarked.

Rabuka noted that the party may not have achieved all its goals, citing the alliance as a contributing factor. However, he characterized a recent meeting as very productive.

He also highlighted that the party’s manifesto could adapt over time, urging supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
