Rabuka’s 2026 Election Plans: What’s Next for the People’s Alliance?

The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has not disclosed his intentions regarding the 2026 elections, amidst increasing speculation about his future plans.

While he has not officially declared his candidacy, Rabuka did not dismiss the idea when asked if he might run again. Concerns have been raised about the party potentially deviating from its initial manifesto due to its coalition government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked. “I will have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the ambiguity surrounding his political future, Rabuka is aware that many of his party’s supporters are keen for him to lead them into the next election. He noted the discussions occurring in various media about the party’s progress, acknowledging that not all objectives have been met, partly due to the coalition.

“We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting,” he said.

Rabuka also pointed out that the party’s manifesto is subject to change, encouraging supporters to share their ideas at party gatherings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he emphasized.

He further noted, “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
