Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, has refrained from discussing his intentions regarding the 2026 elections, amid increasing speculation about his political future.

While he has not officially announced his candidacy, Rabuka did not dismiss the idea when asked if he plans to run again in two years. Concerns have been expressed that the party may be deviating from its original manifesto, with critics suggesting that the Coalition Government has altered its core principles. Rabuka acknowledged these worries, indicating that he is currently weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he stated. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the ambiguity surrounding his political aspirations, Rabuka is aware of the strong support from party members who desire his leadership in the upcoming election. He noted, “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been.”

He admitted that the coalition has hindered the achievement of all the party’s goals but highlighted that they recently held a productive meeting. Rabuka also pointed out the potential for the party’s manifesto to adapt, encouraging supporters to share their ideas during party gatherings.

“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he commented. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
