Sitiveni Rabuka, the leader of the People’s Alliance Party and the current Prime Minister, has not disclosed his intentions for the 2026 elections, despite mounting speculation surrounding his candidacy. When asked if he plans to run again in two years, Mr. Rabuka did not confirm but did indicate that it remains a possibility.

Concerns have been raised that his party might be deviating from its original manifesto, a view some attribute to the compromises made under the Coalition Government. Mr. Rabuka acknowledged this sentiment, stating he is still weighing his options. He noted, “It will depend on my availability,” and further explained that he would need to go through the selection process, indicating he must be one of the applicants.

Despite the uncertainty regarding his candidacy, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters desire his leadership in the upcoming election. He mentioned that various issues had been raised across different media platforms regarding their accomplishments, admitting, “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance.” However, he also highlighted that they had a productive meeting.

Mr. Rabuka asserted that the party’s manifesto might change over time and encouraged supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of the alliance as a collective effort to lead the country in accordance with the people’s wishes, inspired by a vision for national improvement.
