Sitiveni Rabuka, leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, is not revealing his plans for the upcoming 2026 elections amidst rising speculation. Although he hasn’t confirmed whether he will seek re-election, Rabuka confirmed that he is open to the idea when asked about his candidacy for the next election cycle.
Concerns have been raised about the party deviating from its original manifesto, with critics suggesting that its principles have been diluted under the current Coalition Government. Rabuka recognized these concerns, stating that he is contemplating his options.
“It will depend on my availability,” he mentioned, adding that he would still need to participate in the selection process and be one of the applicants for candidacy.
Despite the ambiguity surrounding his potential bid, Rabuka is keenly aware that many supporters wish for him to continue leading the party into the next elections. He acknowledged that various issues have been discussed in the media concerning the party’s actions and inactions, stating, “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”
Rabuka also indicated that the party’s manifesto might be subject to change, encouraging supporters to express their ideas during party gatherings. He emphasized the collaborative nature of the party, stating, “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned.”
He further expressed the importance of the alliance, highlighting their unified goal to govern the country in accordance with the people’s wishes and to work towards its improvement.
