Rabuka’s 2026 Election Plans Still Up in the Air

The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has not disclosed his intentions for the 2026 elections, amidst increasing speculation. Although Mr. Rabuka has not officially announced his candidacy, he did not dismiss the idea when asked if he plans to run again in two years.

There are concerns that the party is drifting from its original manifesto, a situation some believe has arisen due to the Coalition Government. Mr. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, indicating that he is still weighing his options.

“It will depend on my availability,” he mentioned. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his candidacy, Rabuka recognizes that there is significant support among party members for him to lead the party into the next election.

“Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms—things that have been done and things that haven’t been,” he stated. “We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance. But we had a very productive meeting.”

Mr. Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto could adapt over time, inviting supporters to share their ideas during party meetings.

“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he said. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
