The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has not disclosed his intentions regarding the 2026 elections, amid increasing speculation about his candidacy. While he has not officially confirmed whether he will run for re-election, he did not rule out the possibility when asked about his plans for the next two years.
There are growing concerns that the party may be deviating from its original manifesto, a point raised by some who believe the Coalition Government has compromised its principles. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns, stating that he is still weighing his options.
“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked. “I’ll have to join the queue and be subjected to the selection panel at the time. I will still have to be one of the applicants.”
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his political future, Rabuka recognizes that many supporters are keen for him to lead the party into the upcoming election. He noted that issues raised in various media by supporters indicate a desire for clarity.
“We haven’t been able to achieve everything we set out to, partly because of our alliance,” he explained, “but we had a very productive meeting.”
Rabuka also highlighted that the party’s manifesto could evolve and encouraged supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, reminding that the People’s Alliance is about collective engagement.
“As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated. “We are in an alliance, a friendship of people with a common objective: to lead the country properly by the people’s will, guided by a vision for the country’s betterment.”
