The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is remaining silent about his intentions for the 2026 elections, amid increasing speculation regarding his candidacy.
Though Rabuka has not officially declared his plans, he indicated he is open to the idea when asked about the possibility of running again in two years.
Concerns have been raised that the party may be diverging from its original manifesto, with some suggesting compromises made under the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged these concerns and mentioned he is still weighing his options, stating, “It will depend on my availability.” He added that he would need to go through the selection process to be considered an applicant.
Despite the uncertainty, Rabuka recognizes that many party supporters are keen for him to lead them into the upcoming election. He remarked, “Some of you have raised those issues in various media platforms — things that have been done and things that haven’t been.” He admitted that not all goals had been met, partly due to the alliance with other parties, but noted a productive recent meeting.
He also highlighted that the party’s manifesto might evolve over time and encouraged supporters to share their ideas during party meetings. “As our party’s name reflects, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he stated, reinforcing the idea of unity within the alliance aimed at fulfilling the people’s will and improving the nation’s future.
